my experience thus far in service has highlighted several of my shortcomings. Figured i should make a list to try to improve to be a better person.

1. Be less jumpy when things go wrong
2. Be more firm/assertive
3. Plan for more contingencies and in greater details
4. Be more decisive
5. Be less concerned about whether others like me
6. Stop trying to be so understanding that it compromises quality of work

hmm.. that's all i can think of for now, might add more if i can think of it.

I need to work on being more assertive and firm as well!

i dont know abt the more assertive/firm bit, since im not sure how firm/assertive u currently are..but my personal experience tells me tt u shld on the contrary, be concerned abt if others like you, tt is with regards to the men and junior cmdrs under your charge..coz only like tt then they are really willing to die for you, so to say la..anyway, its nice tt u can actually list out the qualities that u need to change on...i cant do tt..hah

wern - you're right, and i feel the exact same way as you. But what i meant is that probably im too concerned whether they like me, till the point that it makes me unable to be more firm when i have to be... think partly is because mostly same age and stuff ba.

quite hard i think.. to be a gd leader tt everyone loves..cos gd leader in work and discipline sense will probably mean ur bosses like you but not your men, so i guess i'll rather be a favorite leader popular among my men and just able to click with my bosses.
